How a crypto swap deposit address works

A swap deposit address is a one-time address for a single swap. You send the exact amount of the right asset on the right network, and the provider takes it from there.

What it is

In a deposit-address swap you do not connect a wallet. Instead, you are given an address on the chain you are sending from. When funds arrive there, the provider detects them and starts the swap.

The address belongs to that swap. It is created for your quote and is not a personal account address.

Why you should not reuse it

A deposit address is tied to a quote, and quotes expire. Funds sent to an old or already-used address may not be matched to a swap, and recovering them can be slow or impossible.

Always start a new swap and use the address it gives you. Do not save an address for later or share it.

The three things that must match

  • The asset. Send the asset the quote names, not a similar one.
  • The network. The same token can exist on several networks, and each has its own address format and rules.
  • The amount. Send the exact amount in the quote. Less may fall below the minimum, and a different amount can change the result or fail the swap.

Memos and destination tags

Some chains need an extra identifier alongside the address, called a memo or destination tag. When a swap needs one, it is part of the instructions and must be included exactly. Leaving it out can leave funds unmatched.

Sending from an exchange

Sending from a custodial exchange can add problems: withdrawal fees come out of the amount, some exchanges batch withdrawals, and the sender address is the exchange's, not yours. If something goes wrong, a refund goes to the refund address you supplied, so make sure it is one you control.

How Sense Swap fits

Sense Swap shows the deposit address, the exact amount, the network and any memo on one screen, with a countdown for the quote. Your order page tracks the deposit through to settlement, and shows a refund if the swap cannot complete.

Questions

How does a crypto deposit address work?
You send funds to a one-time address for a swap. The provider detects the deposit, performs the swap, and pays the result to your receiving address.
Can I send to a deposit address more than once?
No. A deposit address is for one swap and one quote. Start a new swap to get a new address.
What if I send the wrong amount?
Outcomes depend on the provider. A smaller amount may fall below the minimum, and a different amount may change the result or lead to a refund. Send the exact amount in the quote.
